Eliza Gilkyson Workshop Postponed!

Due to unforeseen circumstances we have POSTPONED the Eliza G workshop and please stay tuned for the rescheduled date.

ASG is proud to host Grammy nominated, singer, songwriter and political activist, Eliza Gilkyson

for an unique workshop experience.

Join ASG as we host Grammy nominated, singer, songwriter and political activist, Eliza Gilkyson for a special weekend experience for songwriters and creatives at The Mockingbird Cafe. This unique weekend experience for songwriters and creatives will present a rare opportunity to connect with and learn from one of America’s best songwriters in an intimate setting.

Eliza Gilkyson is a 2-time Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and activist who has become one of the most respected musicians in Folk, Roots and Americana circles. She has appeared on NPR, Austin City Limits, Mountain Stage, etown, Sirius/XM, Air America Radio and has toured worldwide as a solo artist and in support of Richard Thompson, Patty Griffin, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Dan Fogelberg.

Eliza brings incredible focus, humor and expertise to any retreat, with an uncanny ability to detect the “stuck spots” on the fly and offer non-judgmental fixes and suggestions in a safe supportive environment. She can work on anything from classic country tunes to modern or old school folk, from rock and roll to atmospheric pop styles. She is at home in most genres and knows how to structure within and outside of traditional forms of writing, and can work with various levels of songwriting expertise. She loves working with a group of any size, as well as in focused one-on-one sessions.

This workshop is open to everyone. You do not have to be an ASG member to attend. In fact, you do not even have to be a songwriter. If you are at all interested in the creative process of a professional artist, then this one of a kind experience with Eliza is sure to deliver benefits and dividends for years to come.

Her songs have been covered by Joan Baez, Bob Geldof, Tom Rush and Rosanne Cash and have appeared in films, PBS specials and on prime-time TV. She has been inducted into the Austin Music Hall of Fame and recognized with countless Austin Music and Folk Alliance awards. Eliza’s music has always offered a vivid reflection of the times we live in, full of joys and sorrows, each song a window into a life of struggle and triumph in a world she feels is “poised on the edge of moral, economic and environmental bankruptcy.”

Eliza is an active member of the Austin music and political community, including the environmental organization Save Our Springs, and she is a co-founder of 5604 Manor,  an Austin-based resource center that promotes political activism and  community involvement around issues of race, patriarchy and global injustice.

Her newest release on Red House Records is The Nocturne Diaries, which was produced by her son, Cisco Ryder. The songs from the album evoke a journey through the dark night of the soul that ends at the light of dawn with a deep sense of gratitude and a stubborn little ray of hope.

Eliza’s music has always reflected her vivid vision of the world around her, full of joys and sorrows, each song a window into a life of struggle and triumph in a world she feels is “poised on the edge of moral, economic and environmental bankruptcy.” (
