The 6th Annual Austin Songwriters Group Symposium is only two weeks away! The annual event has expanded this year and will kick off on Thursday evening January 28 at the Wyndham Hotel and Conference Center in South Austin, with events throughout the weekend until Sunday January 31.

The Thursday evening is a kick off party at the Wyndham. We will start the party at 7PM. This will be a chance to meet other artists that are participants at the conference. It will be a great place for networking, meeting the instructors that are in town, picking up your registration packet which will include your schedule, a very special concert with some of the instructors, and will end with picking circles for as long as you wish. This party is for those that have signed up for the symposium. It is also a time to register if you haven't already. You must be a member of the ASG to attend. You can join on our website. The cost is 50 dollars for one year. Less than a dollar a week!!

Friday during the day, there will be a slate of workshops and panels throughout the day until about 5:00 PM. For the evening, the attention will shift to Unity Church of the Hills in Northwest Austin for a special concert performance, presented by ASG and the Texas Songwriter's Association, featuring Rodney Crowell and Mary Karr to benefit ASG's ongoing songwriter programs and bring awareness to the ongoing legislature work being done on behalf of the songwriters. Afterwards we will return to the Wyndham for picking circles and open mike.

Saturday and Sunday, all the activity will be centered at the Wyndham with a wide range of workshops, song pitch sessions, panels, special concerts and  showcases, after hours song picking circles and a keynote presentation by Rodney Crowell at the Saturday afternoon luncheon. There is also our special awards show and introduction of all the instructors.

ASG is very proud of this year's facilitators, which includes master songwriters Sonny Throckmorton, Chuck Cannon, Allen Shamblin, Austin Cunningham and Roger Brown, as well as local songwriting luminaries Monte Warden, Bill & Ruth Carter, David Halley, Will Sexton, Stephen Doster, and Marvin Dykhuis, among others.

In addition, the publishing and performance rights end of the songwriting business will be well facilitated with Bobby Rymer, Daniel Lee, Thomas Cain and Brandi Warden. Local Austin media, publicity and booking will be represented by Doug Freeman, Cash Edwards and David Cotton, respectively. Additionally, there will be workshops facilitated by social networking professionals, recording and a complete range of activities designed to cater to every songwriter's basic needs, both creative and commercial.

For those of you who have attended in the past, you know that the ASG Songwriter's Symposium is one of the very best values available. There is nowhere you can receive more bang for your hard-earned dollars. This has always been a songwriter's conference for songwriters, created by songwriters. We endeavor to keep the cots as low as possible so that everyone can participate without the money being an unnecessary barrier.

There are many ways to be part of the festivities for the weekend, including simply attending the Rodney Crowell benefit concert, which is open to the public as well. Seating is very limited and the show is sure to be well-attended, so getting your tickets early is recommended. See the Rodney Crowell Benefit Concert post here on the website for further details and to purchase tickets.

As for the rest of the festivities, you have to be an active member to participate, but membership is only $50 for one year. The cost of the 4-day Symposium is only $150 for full access, which also includes your lunch at the Rodney Crowell Keynote Address on Saturday afternoon. The only way you cannot receive the full value for your registration fees is to not participate.

Make your commitment for 2010 to your songwriting career and get things kicked off right at the 6th Annual ASG Songwriter's Symposium.
