On Friday, September 13th, ASG’s “Friday Night Live at The Mockingbird Cafe” continue with Teresa Neal hosting Darcie Deaville & Steve Brooks.
The main set from these three outstanding performing songwriters begins at 8:00 PM this coming Friday evening, September 13th. An open song circle will follow the main feature set shortly after 9:30.
Host Teresa Neal is one of ASG’s top singer-songwriters and, since the beginning of 2013, has been serving on the ASG Board of Directors. In 2010, Teresa took the top prize in ASG’s Song Contest for her song “5th Avenue,” which was instrumental in her also being crowned ASG’s 2010 “Songwriter of the Year.” In 2013, Teresa also released her newest record, Who I Am, which showcases her considerable songwriting and performance skills to mesmerizing effect on her audiences. Joining Teresa in their first appearances at Friday NIght Live are Austin veterans Steve Brooks and Darcie Deaville.
Darcie Deaville is a multi-talented songwriter, musician, singer and stage performer who, like last week’s guest Conrad Diesler, is also a member of the legendary Austin Lounge Lizards. She has worked with a long list of Texas music legends, including Ray Wylie Hubbard, Eliza Gilkyson, Slaid Cleaves, Toni Price and Tish Hinojosa, among many others. Darcie is also a very busy musical theater performer who travels the world performing on the stage.
Like Darcie, Steve Brooks has a deep connection to Texas music and the two have an intersection with Slaid Cleaves, as Brooks co-penned the hit “One Good Year” with Cleaves himself. The song was the heart of Cleaves’ breakthrough album, Broke Down in 2000. In addition to Cleaves, Steve’s songs have been also recorded by more than a dozen folk and Americana artists, including Christine Albert & Chris Gage, and actor Russell Crowe for his musical side project.
In addition to their songwriting and performance credits, Steve and Darcie also share a love for teaching and coaching on the subject of music and creativity. Steve performs his services as a roaming minister of sorts speaking on subjects like, “Songwriting As A Spiritual Path,” while Darcie has carved herself a unique role as personal music coach for both adults and kids.
This is certain to be an evening of outstanding music, story telling and performance and it wouldn’t be nearly as fun without you to complete the setting. So, mark your calendar, program a reminder in your Smart Phone and make a date to be there for this Friday evening September 13th to experience this one-time-only event with Teresa Neal, Steve Brooks and Darcie Deaville at The Mockingbird Cafe.
As always at Friday Night Live, the feature performance will be followed by an open song circle for those who want to hang out after the show. So, bring your instruments with you and join in the pickin’ circle. Doors open at 7:30 with the songwriter in the round set kicking off at 8:00 sharp. The event is open to the public and general admission tickets are $10 at the door or VIP tickets for $15 with a complimentary beer or wine. This is also a BYOB affair, so feel free to bring your favorite adult beverages along. ASG will also have soft drinks and snacks available for purchase as well.
