Georgia Middleman Returns To Texas for ASG Symposium 2012
Georgia Middleman was born to be a songwriter, and even though she now makes Nashville her home, Texas is proud to call her one of its own. Born in Houston, Texas, Georgia was already on the track to a musical life by the age of 10, when she landed a steady gig singing favorite country tunes, like “Coal Miner’s Daughter” at Texas Star Inn in San Antonio. Before she hit her teen years, Georgia had already written and recorded her first song, and showing entrepreneurial drive by selling the song to her school friends at recess….
Gary Burr To Facilitate Workshops At Symposium 2012
With a songwriting career as storied as Gary Burr’s, it is a challenge to do justice to his accomplishments in a brief website bio for ASG’s Symposium 2012. For starters, he has been received the award as “Songwriter If The Year” three separate times, by three different organizations: Billboard, NSAI and ASCAP. Earlier in his career, he replaced Vince Gill as the lead singer for Pure Prairie League, then set out for Nashville in the late 80’s.
Since then, his track record of songwriting success lands him among the greats of all time….

After two preliminary rounds and one finals round held at Threadgill’s North in late October, the list of 24 ASG songwriters was finally winnowed down to six names that are now going on to perform at The Bluebird Cafe on Tuesday, November 22nd. And, the Top Six Songwriters in Bluebird Cafe Competition 2011 are…Mark Ambrose, Wake Eastman, Jim Heckroth, Chris Pfeiffer, Havilah Rand and Greg Whitfield.

BREAKING NEWS!!! The Austin Songwriters Group is pleased to announce the names of the “Top 24” performing songwriters chosen to perform in a competition over the next two weekends at Threadgill’s North in Austin. The songwriters will be vying for six slots to travel as a group to Nashville early Thanksgiving week to perform at The Bluebird Cafe on Tuesday, November 22nd.
The first of two preliminary rounds of competition will be this coming Friday night, October 21st from 9 PM-Midnight at Threadgill’s North. The second preliminary round will also be at Threadgill’s North on Sunday, October 23rd from 3-6 PM….
It has been a busy 48 hours or so at ASG, since the deadline for submissions for The Bluebird Cafe performing songwriter competition expired. We received an unprecedented number of entries for an ASG performance competition and with only 24 slots available in the competition, the judges had a long couple of days listening to submissions to determine the Top 24 songwriters. We can assure you it was no easy task.
In fact, there were enough qualified songwriters to fill a 3rd night of preliminary competition. However, the published rules for this competition only allowed for 24 slots and to increase the number of songwriters competing would have been to in effect change the rules of the competition….
